Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as Genaanhuis in 1838-1857. If the attestation of 1838 is correct, the toponym is a contracted compound of the definite article ge, oud (old) and huis (house). If the 1838 attestation is a scribal error, then the toponym is a contracted compound of the definite article ge, nieuw (new) and huis (house).
