Noun

Judenfrage f (genitive Judenfrage, plural Judenfragen)

  1. (uncountable, history, otherwise offensive) Jewish Question (debate over the appropriate status and treatment of Jews in Europe)
    • 1933 May 3, A. Müller, “Ein Bonner Bürger protestiert bei Göring am 3.
I want to be very brief, it is about the Jewish Question. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Aryan and I have voted National Socialist, but (in conformity with most of my fellow countrymen) I cannot agree to the solution of the Jewish Question. The people really do not know of a Jewish Question, but only the authorities, who unfortunately, however, pass it on to the people.
  2. (countable, often in the plural, archaic) Jewish matters, things to do with Jews or Judaism

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The term was not originally particularly antisemitic and has been widely used by Jews themselves, including Zionists. Nevertheless it is now associated with the Holocaust and should be treated with some caution.
