Platonic hydrocarbon (plural Platonic hydrocarbons)

  1. (organic chemistry) Any of several polycyclic cagelike hydrocarbons whose underlying structure of carbon atoms is that of one of the Platonic solids; not all are possible, either due to excessive strain, or to valency considerations.
