Cognate with Latin nervus (“tendon, nerve”), Ancient Greek νεῦρον (neûron, “tendon, cord, nerve”), Avestan 𐬯𐬥𐬁𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬭 (snāuuar, “tendon, sinew”), Sanskrit स्नावन् (snā́van-, snāván-, “tendon, muscle, sinew”).
