Cognate with Latin nervus (tendon, nerve), Ancient Greek νεῦρον (neûron, tendon, cord, nerve), Avestan 𐬯𐬥𐬁𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬭 (snāuuar, tendon, sinew), Sanskrit स्नावन् (snā́van-, snāván-, tendon, muscle, sinew).
