Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/bagrъ
Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Of uncertain origin; but most likely a ro-derivative of *bagati + *-rъ, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰeh₃g-.
It is possible that the particular meaning crimson/purple has been influenced by Oghuric Turkic *baɣur < Proto-Turkic *bakɨr (“copper”).
