Etymology[edit]

Possibly a variant of quadrum (square) and quadra (morsel). For the irregular outcome co- from qua-, for which pa- would be expected, compare the glosses codra for quadra, as well as Ancient Greek κοδράντης (kodrántēs) from quadrāns, Koine Greek Κοδρᾶτος (Kodrâtos) from Quadrātus, Byzantine Greek κοτρίγα (kotríga) from quadrīga.
