    From Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰoysós (throwing spear), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰey- (to drive, move, fling).[1] Related to Sanskrit हेषस् (heṣas, missile), Avestan 𐬰𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬀 (zaēna, weapon), Ancient Greek χαῖος (khaîos, shepherd's staff).
