Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Germanic *krīganą, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʷrih₂-gʰo-, a suffixed extended form of *gʷréh₂us (heavy), see also Latin gravis, Ancient Greek βαρύς (barús), Sanskrit गुरु (gurú).[1][2]
