@Irman The final *k in *ḱenk- cannot lead to Persian j and Sanskrit शङ्कते (śaṅkate) does not match as a cognate either. I've even given a source, why the revert? The Middle Persian fits as well. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 16:28, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Here's a pdf of my source: [1]. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 16:30, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Irman: How do you know it is right? —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 16:35, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
The cheung's work on persian words roots is not reliable anymore. It's full of mistakes I am telling you as I am a native persian speaker.(Irman (talk) 18:35, 24 February 2018 (UTC))Reply
Ok y'all, stop warring. @Irman: In what ways is Cheung "full of mistakes?" MacKenzie is quite out of date and not even close to an etymological dictionary. Unless you can produce a source for you claim, your native speaker knowledge is effectively useless in regards to etymology and tantamount to personal research, which is not supported on this project without community approval and, even with that, sourcing. —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 00:02, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
OP θ > MP s is the standard outcome, cf. PIr *θaxtah > MP saxt ("hard"). SW Iranian took on the meaning "to weigh (down)". MP hancyt ("to draw (water)") is a borrowing from NW Iranian. --Victar (talk) 07:32, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Also, semantically, your *ḱenk- etymology is total bunk.--Victar (talk) 07:40, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

سنجیدن

[edit]

The verb سنجیدن (sanjidan) is from Middle Persian snc- (sanǰ-), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱenk- (to waver, be in suspense). I wrote it on etymology section but erased many times by vandals so this is for record in history. — This unsigned comment was added by Irman (talkcontribs).

@Irman: So, do you have literally any sources or just complaining because someone caught you in ignorance? —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 10:49, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Mr. Johnny Cheung you should stop vandal attacking on my page. shame on you! you made me mad and I am so angry I can not understand why someone shoud allow themself to erase someones work this is a shame(Irman (talk) 10:51, 25 February 2018 (UTC))Reply
@Irman: To clarify, I am distinctly not Johnny Cheung. I can have several people (@Chuck Entz, Metaknowledge, Isomorphic) attest to the fact that I am anyone but the Leiden scholar Johnny Cheung. —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 10:57, 25 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely, but that's beside the point, anyway. This is a wiki, so no one "owns" anything, and disagreeing with anyone on the details of an etymology doesn't make anyone a vandal. @Irman Like it or not, you'll have to respond to the substance of the questions asked if you want to be taken seriously. @Irman: If you don't stop adding information which is obviously false with no sources to support your claims, I will block you. —*i̯óh₁n̥C[5] 07:40, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Irman: This isn't the first time your original research has been caught as incorrect. Please stop. --Vahag (talk) 11:47, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
