Square brackets?[edit]

@Wyang May I ask why are [*xˁenʔ] [*tʰˁanʔ] [xen] in square brackets? Dokurrat (talk) 11:38, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dokurrat They are phonetic transcriptions. Neither Baxter-Sagart nor Zhengzhang's reconstructions perfectly fit the idea of the passage, so this was an attempt to illustrate what might have actually been intended/spoken at the time. I will improve on that paragraph. Wyang (talk) 11:53, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wyang: Thanks, I see. Dokurrat (talk) 11:55, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Variant[edit]

The upper heng stroke in the (tian) character on this map is longer than the lower heng stroke. See: 天津 T'IEN-CHING (TIENTSIN)

"written with the upper horizontal stroke longer than the lower horizontal stroke" 天國 --Geographyinitiative (talk) 22:17, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In the city of Taipei, this variant form is used in contexts unrelated to taiping tianguo. For instance, it is used in advertisements. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 23:48, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Geographyinitiative: It's basically the most common form in "older" fonts. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:26, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
