- This is a bit of a grey area I think. His actual given name hasn't survived into the modern era, but what we know is that 臏 is not his actual given name, but rather is referring to the fact that he had his kneecaps removed as a punishment, which permanently crippled him. - @The dog2: Even if it's not a true given name, it is still surname + nickname/epithet, which isn't much different. We also don't have things like Richard the Lionheart, where "the Lionheart" isn't a surname but an epithet. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 15:35, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

- I'm leaning towards supporting deletion, but we do have e.g. Alexander the Great and John the Baptist, as well as Maha Kassapa and Mahapajapati Gotami. We also have Plenty Coups, which I think seems to violate the rule by being his name, defined as him, a specific individual, and which I'll RFD... - -sche (discuss) 21:22, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Arguably 孫臏 is more comparable to Jesus Christ, name + "past passive participle" from χριστός (khristós) modifying the name. --Frigoris (talk) 19:26, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
