Ark van het Verbond

Keep. This is no more SOP than Ark of the Covenant itself is. Nothing in Ark + van + het + Verbond tells us that this is the chest in which the Ancient Israelites kept the fragments of the Ten Commandments that Moses brought down from Mount Sinai. Now it's true that if you calque the Dutch phrase word for word into English you get the English gloss, but that doesn't make the term itself SOP. —Mahāgaja · talk 21:49, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Ark is the default term for a chest with a cultic role, and the meaning of verbond is also going to be clear in context. Obviously some details aren't going to be explained by a name, but that is true of many things. I do think Ark of the Covenant is SOP, but my estimate is that it is and should be protected as a translation hub by Bundeslade and bondskist (maybe also by 約櫃／约柜 (Yuēguì)). ←₰-→ Lingo ^Bingo _Dingo (talk) 07:51, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
