- Wycliffe used it. The 19th century works I've found are pretty much just quoting from him (also "beggingnesse"). Unless you want to count "question-beggingness". DTLHS (talk) 05:28, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

- The Wycliffe usage seems to be an awkward calque of Latin mendicitas from the Vulgate, itself a translation of Hebrew מַחְסוֹר (compare Ancient Greek ἔνδεια (éndeia) in the Septuagint). The second quote by Moberly is apparently a translation of a different word, Ancient Greek πτωχός (ptōkhós), nominalized with -ness.
