There has got to be a better way to present this information than a collapsobox between the inflection-line and the first sense-line. —RuakhTALK 01:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

First idea: move the box. Second idea: put all of the information on the headword line, as ဝိုင် (MLCTS: wuing, BGN/PCGN: waing, ALA-LC: vuiṅ‘, Okell: waiñ). I imagine there is a way to use subst: or a bot to convert all of the entries using the template from their current form to that form. - -sche (discuss) 21:14, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Almost a year later, and I only just noticed this now. Sorry! Anyway, I've made an attempt at cleaning it up; let me know what you think. —Angr 14:06, 17 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It looks great, thanks! —RuakhTALK 02:49, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pipes are confusing

[edit]

The pipe characters (“|”) are confusing. They are not English punctuation, but they are used elsewhere as pronunciation symbols and other technical characters. They have been widely used as layout separators in website design, but even if they are well spaced they are poor for this because at a glance they look like capital I’s or l.c. L’s. In the body of a page, mixed in with romanizations that already use four different sets of special characters, they are much worse.

Any objection to commas? Michael Z. 2013-03-24 16:59 z

The reason I picked spaced pipes is that the MLCTS and BGN/PCGN transliterations use periods (.) and colons (:) to indicate tones, and when you see something like "MLCTS: ma., ALA-LC: ma, BGN/PCGN: ma., Okell: má" it isn't clear that the periods are part of the transcription while the commas aren't. We could used spaced bullets (•) instead of pipes if you like that better. —Angr 19:37, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
@Angr I changed it to bullets (•) - how does it look? —Aryamanarora (मुझसे बात करो) 21:48, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
The bullets look good. @Mzajac, what do you think? Better than pipes? —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 13:01, 11 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
An improvement. Thanks. Michael Z. 2016-01-14 17:26 z
