From Turkish Tirebolu and Ottoman Turkish تیره‌بولی (Tirebolu), from Byzantine Greek Τρίπολις (Trípolis), from Ancient Greek τρι- (tri-, tri-: three) + πολις (polis, city, city-state). Doublet of Tripoli and Tripolis.
