Questions[edit]

@Daniel Carrero It was my impression that the contentious namespaces were Category, Template, and Module, not Appendix. Should we have votes for all 5 (Category, Template, Module, Appendix, Reconstruction)?

Also, is there a reason to prefer “A:” or “AP:” for Appendix? I'm fine with either. —JohnC5 16:10, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should vote for all the 5 you mentioned. I'm going to add module and reconstruction to the page. I thought of "A:" because it is shorter than "Ap:". --Daniel Carrero (talk) 18:16, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

M: -- technically impossible[edit]

Before the vote started, I've made the mistake of proposing "M: → Module:".

There was an early oppose vote, I'm removing it from the vote and copying it here:

"# Technically impossible. A namespace "M:" would conflict with m:, an interwiki prefix for Meta-Wiki. This, that and the other (talk) 22:29, 3 December 2015 (UTC)"[reply]

--Daniel Carrero (talk) 05:09, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Mo:" also doesn't work; apparently there is a Moldavian Wiktionary separate from the Romanian one. Shortcuts can be tested by typing them into the search bar to see if they're already in use (if they take you to another wiki, or just to our local search results page). I had been assuming the devs wouldn't object to granting us aliases that didn't currently conflict with anything, but it occurs to me that they might, based on the likelihood of certain strings being used in the future (I can see "A:" being used for a project alias like "w:", and any three-letter sequence is liable to be assigned as a language code). But one can cross that bridge when one comes to it. - -sche (discuss) 08:59, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would be ok with "MOD:" if that's available. --WikiTiki89 19:04, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Only 1 abbreviation for each namespace[edit]

It was not explicitly said in the vote, but I suggest only implementing 1 abbreviation for each namespace: e.g., don't use both "MD:" and "MOD:" -- and "A:" and "AP:" -- even if multiple options have supporting votes separately, use only the one with more supporting votes.

(I don't know what to do in the event of a tie.) --Daniel Carrero (talk) 20:21, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We hope that there won't be a tie. I think it's clear that there will only be one abbreviation for each namespace, because the abbreviations do not each have their own oppose section. Some people who voted for more than one abbreviation mentioned that they would prefer one over the other. This information could be used as a tie breaker. --WikiTiki89 20:50, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
