Etymology
[edit]From Old Hungarian agar and earlier Agar. Borrowed from a West Slavic language. Compare Czech ohař, Polish ogar and Slovak ohar, from Proto-Slavic *ogarь. A direct borrowing from a (Oghuric) Turkic language is less likely. First attested in 1193.
