French

Etymology

From Middle French ainsi, from Old French ensi, ainsins, probably from Latin in (in) + (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin sic (thus). Alternatively, from Old French ains + si, but this is less likely, especially for the forms beginning with en-. Compare Catalan així, Italian così, Portuguese assim, Romanian așa, Spanish así.
