French[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Middle French ainsi, from Old French ensi, ainsins, probably from Latin in (“in”) + sīc (“thus”). Alternatively, from Old French ains + si, but this is less likely, especially for the forms beginning with en-. Compare Catalan així, Italian così, Portuguese assim, Romanian așa, Spanish así.
