From Vulgar Latin *eccum sīc, corresponding to Italian ecco +‎ . Closely parallel to Dalmatian coisa, Friulian cussì, Istriot cussèi, Sardinian gósi (bosìe, deàsi, etc.), Venetian cusì. Compare also Catalan així, French ainsi, Portuguese assim, Spanish así, Romanian așa, Sicilian accussì.
