Etymology
Borrowed from Italian. Compare Venetian articioco, from Old Italian alcarcioffo, from Old Spanish alcarchofa, from Arabic اَلْخَرْشُوف (al-ḵaršūf, “artichoke”). Influenced by Hungarian csóka.[1]
