From Japanese 泡盛 (awamori)

awamori (uncountable)

  1. An alcoholic beverage indigenous to Okinawa, Japan, and also produced some in Kyushu. It is made from rice, and is not a direct product of brewing (like sake) but of distillation (like shochu).
