Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *b(i)āk(k)a (uncertain meaning; possibilities include: frog or turtle/tortoise). Now it only appears in the language as a suffix in some animal names like kurbağa, kaplumbağa, tosbağa, etc.
