belly buster (plural belly busters)

  1. (slang) A very large meal.

      The food looks every bit as mouth-watering as the chain's 2,500-calorie belly-buster meals.
  2. (slang) A loud, exuberant laugh.
    • 2008, Bill Blankenship, Daisy on Wheels, page 83:
      Laughter from everyone. Even Mr. Poteet, tired of trying to drill history into the heads of the twins, lets out with a real belly buster.
  3. (poker slang) A poker hand which is four cards to a straight, where only one rank can complete a straight. E.g. 3-4-6-7, only a five completes the straight.
  4. (oil industry) A type of safety harness with a belt that wraps tightly around the belly.

      The derrickman releases the "stabbing board", a pivoting plank like a diving board, then walks out to the very end and, wearing a safety harness called a "belly buster", leans out at a horrific angle to make sure the pipe is lined up straight.
