[edit]Borrowed from French bismuth, from German Wismut, Wismuth,[1] from Middle High German wismāt, from Latin bisemūtum, from Arabic بِسِيمُوتِيُّون (bisīmūtiyyūn), from Ancient Greek ψιμύθιον (psimúthion, “white lead”). First attested in 1807.[2]
