From a Norman variant of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French chalumeau (imported to Canada with Norman colonists), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin calamellus, diminutive of calamus (“reed”), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek κάλαμος (kálamos).
