(libraries, business) A catalogue of items (such as books, documents, or equipment) comprising a set of drawers or trays (usually a cabinet of small drawers) full of cards (index cards) on which the sundry items are indexed (that is, registered, listed, and briefly described regarding their location and other salient points).
