Possible cognates include Tho /caːj³/, Hung /caːj/, Muong chuổi (banana), Khmer ចេក (ceːk, ceːc, banana), Ngeq /callɔk/ (“trunk or edible center of banana tree”), Khmu /kɟɔːk/, Semai /ɟai/, Temiar /ɟai/, Jehai /ɟaj/, Thai หยวก (jùːak, trunk of banana tree).
