From Old French (and Middle French) deslier, from Vulgar Latin disligāre, present active infinitive of disligō, from Latin dis- + ligō (tie, bind). Compare Occitan desligar, Catalan deslligar, Spanish and Portuguese desligar, desliar, Friulian disleâ, Italian slegare, Romanian dezlega.
