Via some European language, ultimately from Latin physiologia, from Ancient Greek φυσιολογία ‎(phusiología, natural philosophy), from φύσις ‎(phúsis, nature) and λόγος ‎(lógos, word, treatise) with the suffix -ία ‎(-ía) (Latvian -ija).
