Etymology[edit]

From French gastronomie, from Ancient Greek γαστρονομία ‎(gastronomía), from γαστήρ ‎(gastḗr, stomach) and νόμος ‎(nómos, knowledge, law). Surface analysis is gastro- ‎(cooking) +‎ -nomy ‎(a system of rules or laws about a particular field).
