- (biochemistry) Any of various specialized peroxisomes found in plants (particularly in the fat-storage tissues of germinating seeds) and also in filamentous fungi, serving to break down fatty acids and provide enzymes to produce intermediates for the synthesis of sugars by gluconeogenesis.
