gynopara (plural gynoparae)

  1. A viviparous female aphid that is born in the autumn on a secondary host, then flies to the primary host where she produces new females that mate and deposit eggs.
    • 1900, Pamphlets on Biology: Kofoid collection - Volume 2081, page 196:
      Field experience has shown that the arrival of a single gynopara (and one or more males) is sufficient to produce a severe infestation over the entire tree the following spring.
