From Proto-Vietic *huːɲ. Compare also Central and Southern Vietnamese hun and Proto-Katuic *huuɲ ~ *huoɲ (to smell, to sniff) (whence Kuy [huːɲ] ("to smell, to sniff") and Pacoh hunh (to kiss)).
