Etymology

[edit]

From older ep (Buzuku), with the initial j- coming from a reanalysis of "i ep" (roughly, i ep > ijep > i jep). Old Albanian ep further comes from *epi < Proto-Albanian *apijo, also reconstructed as *apīh, *apī(t), from Pre-Proto-Albanian *apii̯i/a-, inherited from Proto-Indo-European *h₁op-éi̯e/o-, meaning "to give" < "to let grasp, have".[1]
