Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Tocharian *kärst- (whence Tocharian B kärst-), from a form of Proto-Indo-European *(s)ker-. Cognate with English share, shear, Lithuanian kirpti (chop, cut), Latin cortex, and a huge number of other words.
