[edit]From Bavarian Krawatl, from German Krawatte, from French cravate (“necktie”), from Serbo-Croatian Hrvat (“a Croat”). Suffixed with -i to resolve the word-final consonant cluster, compare cetli from Bavarian zettl or German Zettel (/ˈt͡sɛtl̩/) etc.
