Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French lavallière, named after the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France.

lavalier (plural lavaliers)

1. An item of jewellery consisting of a pendant, sometimes with one stone, suspended from a necklace.
2. A kind of microphone intended to clip onto the lapel at about the level of the pendant on a lavalier.
