Etymology

From Ancient Greek λειπογγράμμα (leipongrámma), from λείπω (leípō, leaving out) +‎ γράμμα (grámma, letter), 18th c.

Noun

lipogram (plural lipograms)

  1. (literature) A word or writing that does not use a particular symbol or symbols.
    "Transubstantiationalists" is a particularly long single-word lipogram, not using the letter "e".
