From Proto-Germanic *luginō ‎(lie, falsehood), from Proto-Indo-European *lewgʰ- ‎(to tell lies, swear, bemoan). Cognate with Old Saxon lugina ‎(falsehood), Norwegian lygn ‎(lie). More at lie.
