Etymology[edit]

Possibly a variant of mischiare, itself from Early Medieval Latin misculāre (compare Venetian misiar, misciar), or a variant of mescidare, miscidare, mescitare, also now archaic/obsolete or literary words, derived from Vulgar Latin *miscitāre (compare Friulian messedâ, Venetian mesedar, Romansch maschadar; cf. also Italian mestare), ultimately from Latin misceō (to mix).
