Borrowed from Greek μουσακάς (mousakás), from Turkish musakka, from Arabic مُسَقَّعَة(musaqqaʕa) or originally from Arabic مُصَقَّعَة(muṣaqqaʕa), from the trilateral root ص ق ع(ṣ-q-ʕ): “to hit, to pound, to smash”. [1]
