Blench (2014) offers Proto-Austroasiatic quasi-reconstruction *h.ŋaŋ. Compare Pacoh angoung (goose) and Bahnar ngong (goose).

ngan (Muscovy duck) is the non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese (wild goose, SV: nhạn).
