Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Austroasiatic *h.ŋaŋ. Compare Pacoh angoung (goose) and Bahnar ngong (goose). Doublet ngan (Muscovy duck) is the Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese (“wild goose”; SV: nhạn).
