Etymology
[edit]Uncertain, not a Sumerian loan, being derived from another substratum or more likely a Semitic root that was more productive in East Semitic; possible connections to Arabic قَوَّهَ (qawwaha, “to shriek, scream, yell, cry out, shout”) and Arabic قَبَّ (qabba, “to raise a clamor, to make a confusion of cries, to shout, to make a noise or utter a sound; to audibly gnash teeth, to grumble, to bray”).
