Etymology

From Proto-Austroasiatic *raːŋʔ (“daylight”). Cognate with Khasi rang (“fine weather”), Khmu rʔaːŋ, Bahnar rang (“light”) and Khmer ស្រាង (sraang, “to glimmer”). Shorto (2006) connects this term to sáng.
