From the same stem as sāls (“salt”), made into a 3rd-conjugation verb in -īt.[1]

- to salt (to conserve food by sprinkling it with salt or by placing it into a saline solution)
- sālīta zivs ― salted fish
- sālīti sēnes, produkti ― salted mushrooms, groceries
- medījumu gaļas sālīšana nodrošina tās ilgu saglabāšanos ― the salting of game meat ensures its conservation
- vīķes sālīt prata mūsu tālie senči jau tajos laikos, kad tikai iemācījās makšķerēt un uzzināja, kas ir sāls ― our distant ancestors knew how to salt bleaks already in the old times, when they had just learned to fish and found out what salt was
