Latin sciaena (a kind of sea fish, perhaps a kind of grayling or ombre: Thymallus thymallus), from Ancient Greek σκίαινα (skíaina, a sea fish, probably either Sciaena umbra or Umbrina cirrosa), +‎ -oid.
