From Middle English schinboon, schineboon, from Old English sċinbān (shin, shinbone), from Proto-Germanic *skinōbainą, equivalent to shin +‎ bone. Cognate with Dutch scheenbeen (shinbone), German Schienbein (shinbone), Danish skinneben (shin, shinbone), Swedish skenben (shinbone).
