From Middle English schinboon, schineboon, from Old English scinbān ‎(shin, shinbone), equivalent to shin +‎ bone. Cognate with Dutch scheenbeen ‎(shinbone), German Schienbein ‎(shinbone), Danish skinneben ‎(shin, shinbone), Swedish skenben ‎(shinbone).
