  1. (physics, chemistry) A metamaterial, a cluster of atoms which acts like a single atom. It seems to exhibit some of the properties of elemental atoms.
  2. (organic chemistry) One or more atoms of a basic structure that are replaced by amplificants in the amplification process of phane nomenclature
